Criterion Machine Works:Precision Modular Boring Systems for CNC Machining
Criterion Proves You Can Teach an Old Dog New Tricks
Established in 1935, Criterion started as a job shop in Beverly Hills, CA, producing parts for the defense and movie industries. While doing job shop work, Criterion developed boring tool products that were useful to them and soon began offering boring systems to other manufacturers. The Criterion boring head quickly became popular and in 1955 we moved our operation to Costa Mesa where currently we produce
all our precision modular boring systems.
When the market shifted to CNC (computer numerical controlled) machining centers, Criterion continued to offer the widest boring range possible with one boring head. As manufacturing technology continues to evolve, and higher speeds have become more critical, Criterion has kept pace with this evolution.
Criterion’s CB Style Boring Heads Make the Transition Smoother
As manufacturing shifted to CNC, we did not want to limit the boring tool range as others had chosen. To meet the needs of CNC machining centers, we introduced our CB Style boring head. The CB series boring heads were designed with a larger mounting face to be compatible with the tool holders used on CNC machines. The larger mounting surface also gave a more rigid and stable connection for performing a boring operation. All the ranges and adjustability features of the various DBL models were maintained in the CB design.Criterion’s Exclusive Precision Boring System Revolutionizes the Industry
One of the most difficult aspects of boring is attaining the correct RPM for the boring cutting tool. Boring heads are design to move off center so you can enlarge the ID of a hole. This movement creates an imbalance, usually requiring a slower RPM to ensure the bore can be produced. What is the value of a balanced boring head? First and foremost is increased productivity. Because the boring tool can now operate at its optimum speed, another benefit is improved boring tool life.
Today Criterion specializes in precision modular boring systems for CNC machining centers.
